How to run BC Vault application in DEBUG MODE

Modified on Mon, 3 Feb at 9:43 AM

Sometimes, an issue may occur that requires a deeper analysis to identify and resolve. In such cases, our support team may need additional information about the BC Vault application’s internal processes to pinpoint the root of the problem.

To assist with this, we’ve implemented a debug mode within the BC Vault application. This mode allows the application to log all non-sensitive activities and errors to a file, which can then be shared with our support team for further review.

Rest assured, the debug log does not record any sensitive information such as passwords or PINs.

How to run BC Vault application in DEBUG MODE

  1. Launch the BC Vault application and log in using your GLOBAL PASSWORD and GLOBAL PIN.
  2. Hold down the OPTION key (for MacOS) or ALT key (for Windows) on your keyboard and click on Settings in the BC Vault application.
  3. The Settings screen should open. Under the Application version and Device firmware, you will see the Advanced/debug mode: ON text. Next, navigate to Application settings → Preferences, and scroll to the bottom where you will find the Logging settings.
  4. Enable the option Log events on next application start, then click the button to open your log file destination folder. This will open the exact location where the debug log will be stored.
  5. Close the BC Vault application.
  6. Restart the BC Vault application. From this point, the application will log all activities (excluding any sensitive information) in the debug log file.
  7. Recreate the issue you were experiencing by repeating the action that caused the problem.
  8. Close the BC Vault application.
  9. From the Finder (MacOS) or Explorer (Windows) window you opened earlier, locate the BC_DebugLog.txt file and send it to us for further analysis.

P.S.: If the file is too large to attach to your email or support ticket, you can use file-sharing services such as WeTransfer to send it. As mentioned, the debug log does not contain any sensitive information.
