Sign Message

Modified on Wed, 3 Sep at 9:23 AM

From v3.1.0 BC Vault application supports function for signing blockchain messages on Bitcoin (BTC), Cardano (ADA), Ethereum (ETH) and all custom EVM Networks (BNB, AVA C-Chain...) and Solana Network. This function is also commonly used in airdrops of news tokens that are based on existing wallet holdings.

What does it mean to “Sign a message”?

When you sign a message, you’re using your crypto wallet’s private key to attach a kind of digital signature to some text or data. It’s like writing your name on a letter but in a way that cannot be faked.

What it proves

    •    That you control the wallet (because only you have the private key).

    •    That the message hasn’t been changed since you signed it.

    •    That it really came from you (or your wallet), not an imposter.

What it does not do

    •    It does not send money.

    •    It does not publish anything on the blockchain.

    •    It’s just a proof of identity you can share with others.

If you want to sign a message simply go to particular crypto currency and wallet with which you want to sign a message, click on "More" (three dots on the upper right part of the wallet) and select "Sign message".

Select the Address Type (if applicable), enter the message (String or Hexadecimal data) you would like to sign and click on the "Sign" button:

Once confirmed on the BC Vault device you will get back the signed message that you can provide back to the original requester:
